Newbury ‘later living’ development

We’ve submitted plans for a new mixed-use development at the heart of Newbury. Developed as a benchmark scheme for Eden Retirement Living, the proposals for 11-15 Bartholomew Street include 61 apartments for independent ‘later living’ together with communal facilities, concierge services, guest accommodation, retail units and car parking.

The 5,693m² building is designed as a series of 3 and 4-storey blocks arranged in a C shape and centred around a split level landscaped courtyard. Overlooking the main garden is the residents’ lounge, arts and crafts studio, and fitness suite. On the upper courtyard level, raised planters are used to define communal garden areas and private patio spaces.

A simple material palette of red brick and bronze is enriched by a variety of textures and details including brick frames, smooth light bronze panels and recessed balconies. Inspiration has been drawn from the neighbouring 19th Century Georgian buildings and courtyard spaces to design a contemporary scheme that responds sensitively to the local context and provides an attractive backdrop for the Grade I listed St Nicholas Church.

Green light for 120 new homes

Our proposals for 120 new homes to the edge of Chalgrove have been approved by South Oxfordshire District Council. The mixed tenure development will provide predominantly detached and semi-detached 2, 3 and 4-bedroom dwellings.

Houses are accessed from short semi-private cul-de-sac lanes which are served by a primary loop road. Separate pedestrian and cycle routes run from north to south linking the existing village to the new community via the lanes and the green spaces. A new Scout Hut will provide a landmark community facility for both the new and the wider community to enjoy.

The village and the site itself have significant flooding issues which are dealt with using several dry ponds and swales distributed down the sloping site to store water before slowly releasing it into the river at the bottom. These SuDS solutions provide green spaces within the site, reinforced by tree banks which divide the housing up into smaller communities.

11-13 The Boulevard

We’ve just been awarded planning for this 91-unit landmark residential scheme in Crawley town centre.

Made up of 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartments, the new building provides much needed housing while improving the public realm by creating active street frontages with clearly defined entrances, upgrading the landscaping and introducing a high-quality modern building into the town centre.

Massing responds to and respects the smaller-scale residential developments behind the site while the varied material palette of brick and aluminium cladding gives the scheme a contemporary edge.

New project

We’re preparing to submit a planning application for this new 32-unit residential development in Gerrards Cross.

The design for the 5-storey scheme responds to the local context using a robust palette of grey brickwork with a contrasting lightweight metal cladding featured on the roof extension.

Planning will be submitted in October.

Winner - RICS Awards, London

Last night our Alpine Place development won the RICS Award for the best project in the residential category in London. A huge congratulations to our team and everyone involved in the project.

Now we’re looking forward to the Grand Final Ceremony where the regional winners from all 12 RICS Award ceremonies compete to win the National Award for their category. Fingers crossed!
